I don't have a problem with them. Nothing wrong, in my opinion, with people trying to earn a living. People write books for various reasons... sometimes just to make money, sometimes to say something important- doesn't matter to me- if I like it, I will read it and I doubt book authors sit around criticizing and getting all worked up because those who write for profit are bastardizing their art.

I am honestly, a little surprised that you of all people would criticize someone for things they might do to earn money. That is not meant to be a judgey- mean spirited low blow by any means- even thought it might kinda sound that way- and I apologize... but I honestly am getting tired of the many posts (on many blogs, not just you)whining about other people's blogs and their motivations/methods etc. Blog and let blog, I say... and of course, quit reading the one's you don't like... That might sound hypocritical and leave you wondering why I am reading you when I tend to see things differently from time to time- but I genuinely like you and your writing and I feel like you are a big girl and don't mind it too much when I am the voice of opposition-

I write for me. I write for my sons. I write because I love to write.

I tried two reviews and hated it. It didn't feel right. I was honest and straight forward, but it just isn't my style.

I do have to say that I would put an ad up, if the opportunity arose but only because it would help me to justify doing what I love when we can't really afford it right now.

If I were awesome enough slash smart enough to figure out how the hell to make money blogging, I'd do it. But selling your soul to PR companies and shitting all over people is not the way to be. It's gone from "being a mom who happens to blog" to "I'm a mom, therefore I blog".

Fuck that.

Can I just repost my reponse to this whole thing over at BlogHer...

Thanks...(and also, love you Maria, can't wait to see your tee-shirt this year at BlogHer)

I'm alte to this party - That's what happens when you have to move all weekend - damn real life...

At any rate I did scan, rather than read, most of the comments and I have to agree with those who find the whole thing more than a little silly.

I used to love doing reviews. Then I started to get a dozen pitches a day and then it interferred with my writing and now I rarely do them. Easy- peasy - no need for a campaign and or a button.

For those of you who find it a worthwhile use of time to spend at least a few hours reviewing a $10 product, go crazy! Seriously - have fun...but know that I personally am not crazy about reading other people's takes on laundry detergent so I probably won't be reading or entering a contest...it's not worth my time.

It's pretty straightforward and turning it into a huge issue and calling for a PR blackout, etc, etc...well it just makes the whole community look LAME.

Every week there's a new controversy in the mommy-blogging community and every week we look lamer and lamer (more lame?)

I don't even talk to my real life friends about these things anymore because I just feel embarassed and, given my threshold for shame, that should tell you that things are getting really lame out there...
