I made cupcakes this week with Ari. And Oreo cookies – but those were crumbled up as soon as they cooled and used for the cupcakes and frosting. It took a long time and my kitchen was a mess by the time it was over, but it was so worth it. I posted the recipe on my Tumblr, feel free to check it out. I wouldn’t recommend you poke around there though if you’re at work or around children. But I do recommend using Dagoba Organic Chocolate products. They are delicious, and of course if you know me, you know that I don’t eat chocolate that isn’t fair trade to ensure that I’m not supporting the child slavery that produces popular cocoa for Hershey, Nestle, and other large name chocolate companies – Dagoba is with me in my efforts.

Trust me, they are good. You should make them.

That’s a screenshot of the Google Analytics numbers for Cardboardlove.com for the past 30 days. Mind you, this site has only been live since February. If you know anything about blog stats, you will understand how impressive this is. On top of that, the thousands of feed subscribers, the thousands of reblogs over Tumblr… it’s…insane. Especially because Joey has never promoted the site, ever, at all, in any way.

These numbers… they warm me to my core. And I’m a cold, cold bitch dontchaknow. It’s just really sweet to me that so many people have responded positively to the site, have blogged or tweeted about it, have sent emails and messages to each of us. The site exists simply because a boy loved a girl and wanted to show her, in the most obvious way possible – in a way near and dear to her heart – a blog.

Anyway, since unless you do a bit of digging through the internet to find out more about Joey and I, we decided to record a little podcast for the about page of the site. Like ta hear it? Here it go:

I don’t know if you all heard about what happened on a Greyhound bus in Canada last week.

Vince Weiguang Li went nuts, and started violently stabbing the passenger sleeping in the seat next to him, 22 year old Tim McLean in the face, neck and chest. McLean awoke during this attack and eyewitnesses recall him screaming. Li went on to saw his head off, decapitating McLean to end the attack.

No one knows what happened. What triggered this guy. What set him off. It’s probably one of those things we’ll never understand. But it hurts me. I mean, I didn’t know this guy of course, but goddamnitt…

I was looking at the victim’s MySpace page and seeing just how normal, how average, how cute, how young he was. He was sleeping. Sleeping! Minding his own business and some fucking lunatic just went off and murdered him in the most gruesome way. It just…it really gets to me. It really hurts me that people can be so very cruel to one another.

We’ve all heard it before folks, but, we need to appreciate our lives, and those around us. We need to treat others well. There should be no room in your heart or mind for hate. We all have much better things to do than always step on our brethren, hate other races, badmouth gays, or tease our peers. Make sure the people you care about most know how you feel about them. Not everyone is lucky enough to know when they’re going out. So make sure you’re living right. Not for some grand afterlife or whatever else you may be striving for, but just because it’s the right thing to do.

I’ve asked that sort of question before. Jokingly, but with serious undertones. I mean, if I asked and he’d said no, I’m sure I’d have been reevaluating the relationship. I know many other people [women, mainly] who have asked some variation of it as well. I’d guess it was a pretty common thing.

I believe that you just can’t answer that question 100%. It’s kind of like wondering if you were that woman in the Tsunami that had to choose between her children because she could only hang onto one what you would have done in her place. You just don’t know. It could be just me though, maybe others know themselves and their feelings for their significant others well enough to be able to answer without contemplative hesitation.

Look at how happy she is. No bride would risk ruining her wedding day photos with that cheesy Kool-Aid grin if it wasn’t genuine. Her fiancee was injured during a stint in Afghanistan just a month after they were engaged, and they had only known each other for a few months before he proposed. Regardless…

that is love.
