I don’t know if you all heard about what happened on a Greyhound bus in Canada last week.
Vince Weiguang Li went nuts, and started violently stabbing the passenger sleeping in the seat next to him, 22 year old Tim McLean in the face, neck and chest. McLean awoke during this attack and eyewitnesses recall him screaming. Li went on to saw his head off, decapitating McLean to end the attack.
No one knows what happened. What triggered this guy. What set him off. It’s probably one of those things we’ll never understand. But it hurts me. I mean, I didn’t know this guy of course, but goddamnitt…
I was looking at the victim’s MySpace page and seeing just how normal, how average, how cute, how young he was. He was sleeping. Sleeping! Minding his own business and some fucking lunatic just went off and murdered him in the most gruesome way. It just…it really gets to me. It really hurts me that people can be so very cruel to one another.
We’ve all heard it before folks, but, we need to appreciate our lives, and those around us. We need to treat others well. There should be no room in your heart or mind for hate. We all have much better things to do than always step on our brethren, hate other races, badmouth gays, or tease our peers. Make sure the people you care about most know how you feel about them. Not everyone is lucky enough to know when they’re going out. So make sure you’re living right. Not for some grand afterlife or whatever else you may be striving for, but just because it’s the right thing to do.

My mom and were also pointing out that horrific things keep happening to people in Canada while they were listening to Ipods or Mp3…a while back a guy walking and listening to tunes had a helicopter drop on his head.
yeah….
Scary shit all over the world
I actually had not heard about this. I haven’t been watching or listening to the news. It gets to be too much sometimes. This is heartbreaking. That poor boy’s family. What an unnecessary tragedy. I know there’s a lesson here somewhere.
I love this song, thank you for sharing this.
We should always live as if each moment is the last, each time we say goodbye is the last.
One of my favorite songs is ‘Switchfoot’s’ It’s Your Life.
Thank you for posting this Maria.
I tend to avoid news and newspapers for this exact reason and I figure that if it’s really newsworthy, I will find out via blogging or word of mouth. My brother told me this a few hours ago and I’m sick over it :(
I wish I never heard it…absolutely horrific.
“There should be no room in your heart or mind for hate.”
Golden. Words to live by. Thank you.

Yep, senseless, horrible, disgusting, shocking and so needless and pointless. It leaves me kind of speechless, and that’s hard to do.
On the feed reader issue, did you know feedburner lets you put your copyright thing right at the bottom of the feed? I’ve done it with mine so that I don’t have to do the partial feed thing, and I’d be glad to point you in that direction if you are interested.

WTF is WRONG with people??????? Seriously???? I’m gonna have nightmares.

Yeah I heard about this yesterday and it was horrifying to even think of. Obviously the guy was insane, or, well, in this day and age, perhaps it’s better to say that I hope this guy was insane because anyone sane who could do something like this? Needs to be severely, severely punished. And I never really though of visiting the myspace pages of crime vistims before. That’s actually a good idea. If we humanize the victims more perhaps we won’t be as desensitized as the media and entertainment industry has made us to violence.

I am from Canada. This bus passed through my province. In the prairies, we tend to think we are safe from this kind of thing. We tend to be fairly untouched by random, insane violence….and then something like this happens…and it makes you hold your kids closer. Basically, this sucks. I like living in a place where you can leave your doors unlocked.
I kept reading about this all week, it’s just horrible. I can’t imagine what makes people do this kind of stuff to each other.
The latest from Kat…Uh, No, It’s MY Car
I am shocked to my core.
Insanity.
What is wrong with our fellow humans that something like this can happen? Surely there were signs that this man was unhinged.
This makes me feel physically ill.

that’s why my first tatt will say “silence is betrayal”. Drea would appreciate that.

My GOD. I hadn’t heard anything about this. So troubling, the random incidences of violence. Last week (here in MO), a man purposefully set his car on fire and then shot and killed a firefighter when they came to put the fire out. Makes mama bear a little “roarish.”
The morning it hit the news, David half ran into the kitchen saying, “Turn on the news. Some guy was beheaded in Manitoba on a Greyhound.”
Frankly, I was too stunned to move. Beheaded? In Canada? Seriously, no.
I think the problem that people are having is the randomness of it all. I mean, how often have you sat down somewhere and felt the person next to you or near you was creepy in some way, but you just left it at that. How do you defend against a truly random act of violence.
And how, even if you wanted to, do you intervene in that kind of barbaric act?
I tell you, it’s left our relatively peaceful country reeling… that’s for sure.

I read about that and it really made me sad. I’m the type of person that when things like this happen I really get mad. I always want things to be fair in life but I know they never will be. I hope that bastard gets whats coming to him.

Tragedy. That’s the only word that can be used to describe what happened to this young man.
Castration. That’s the only word that can be used to describe what should happen to the insane son of a bitch that took that poor boy’s life.
The latest from CJ…What ever happened to Paulie Shore?
OK, between this post and the last one I’m practically catatonic. Installing new locks on the doors, never letting my daughters outside again. Seriously, WTF?

Just clarifying. ;)

My God how horribly terrible! And so sad.
Your words are so right and true.
I must live in a bubble, I hadn’t heard about this. How extremely sad.

You’re so right, Maria. (But you knew that.)

This is a tragedy. Senseless and so sad. I will never understand what motivates people to randomly take other people’s lives.

I know, such a shame. I wrote about this a little this week too. The story just grabbed my attention at how crazy people out there are. Scary, just downright scary.

I must admit this has been top of mind for me the last couple of days; so unsettling. Especially as a parent.
What a horrific, horrific incident. The parents and family not only dealing with losing a son/brother/loved one, but also with the horrible way he died. The randomness gives me chills.
Thanks for the reminder, Maria.
