So. So….

in The Ex

I’m not a *huge* fan of Valentine’s Day. I never have been really, but even more so because the past few have sucked tremendously. The only one worth remembering was before J. and I were married. He bought me a $400 life sized teddy bear that the Hallmark store was giving away as a prize in a contest, just because I said it was cute as we passed the window. Said teddy bear was later sliced open with a box cutter [READ: There's that anger problem again]. But that’s my best Valentine’s Day.

Wait, then there was the year we left The Bella with my family the first time overnight and went out of town. We conceived Goobie and he took me to the zoo to cry over how small the gorillas’ habitat was. Eh, 2 outta 5 ain’t bad I guess.

Actually last year was pretty good too because even though I didn’t receive anything from J., three guys from a couple of my classes bough me flowers, balloons and cards. So sweet. And completely innocent so stop! :)

Anyway…

This year, I made a bet with my best friend that even though J. would be working in floral all day for the entire week that I wouldn’t get anything. “Not even a thorn stuck to the back of his ass…” I said. Well, I told him about our bet. Thinking it was my only shot to get a gift. Still half expecting nothing.

Last night, he walked in with two rose bouquets and two teddies, one for Goobie and one for The Bella. Nada for me. This morning I got a 1/2 yawn 1/2 ‘Huppy Vamatun’s Day‘ as soon as he woke up. Good for me. Better than usual, eh?

At noon I went to check the mail. On my porch was a box from Proflowers.com.
Inside was a bouquet of tulips and a teddy bear along with a note that read:

“Maria,
I hope this is our best Valentine’s Day ever.
You lost your bet.

Love you always,
J.”

I guess I won’t give up on him yet.

That is sweet. And making you wonder for a while whether or not you’ll get anything–that makes it even better. Enjoy your day!

I usually hate the whole commercialized romance thing, but that was sweet b/c it was unexpected and genuine.

Good man.

I KNEW someone out there had to have heard of it!

So did you buy it as lotion, or ‘other’ purposes?

Good for him! I find just telling Michael what I want works the best, I know I’ll get something I like, and he doesn’t have to look like an ass forgetting!Yet, he still surprises me sometimes, too!:)

Hmmm… yea, Valentine’s is just another day to me. My first year married was all a lie. All romantic, he lead me to beleive this is what to expect – gifts an flowers. 14 years later, I’m still expecting, but no longer holding my breath. :)
